Connecticut's State Department of Labor recently unveiled its new training and employment program designed to boost jobs and assist small businesses in finding suitably-trained employees. The initiative is known as STEP and works by the government paying for companies in the small business sector to train workers. The move is also an important way to drive jobs growth by offering unemployed people a chance to re-enter the work force. Small businesses are the main driving force behind job growth and business insurance in Connecticut remains a key area where insurance providers need to serve the diversity of the sector by packaging insurance to suit small business needs.

The STEP program consists of $5 million two-year assistance schemes where eligible small business are paid on a sliding scale over time to train employees, according to the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA). It is available to most non-retail firms who employ less than 50 full time staff over half of their working days over the last year.

Those looking for more information on the STEP scheme can contact the department via their website. For quotes or information regarding business insurance, Connecticut small business owners are welcome to contact one of our agents to arrange a consultation. They will be able to assist with your queries, quotes and policy applications.
